Internships 2027
(Dutch version below)
Like every year, Kilembe Mines Hospital will receive volunteers and interns from Daktari Project in the summer of 2027. All students in healthcare related fields are welcome to apply. Concerning necessary background knowledge, we require students to have finished at least their 1st master year of medicine or their 3rd to 4th bachelor year of nursing/midwifery/…
During each summer month (July, August and September), a group of 4 students will go to Kilembe Mines Hospital to stay there for an internship of 3 weeks. As a volunteer, you would support the local hospital staff by assisting them with their daily tasks, all the while learning from their vast clinical experience. This is a unique way to learn about the challenges of health care abroad. Moreover, you will act as an extension of our organisation to give input on our long term projects and the needs of the hospital and local community during your visit.
The hospital provides housing located on the previous hospital grounds, which is just opposite the current Kilembe Mines Hospital site. You will be well looked after by our Ugandan friends, and will always be in direct contact with one of our Daktari Project members in Belgium.
We are organizing an information session on October 27, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. in Auditorium D on the UZ Gent campus (subject to change). We’ll provide detailed information about all the practical details and what you can expect! Of course, you’ll also have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
Have questions already? Email vrijwilligers@daktariproject.com for more information.
After the information session, please send your resumé and motivation letter to volunteer@daktariproject.com. Your letter can be written in Dutch or English. We’ll use these to select volunteers for the summer of 2027!

(Nederlandstalige versie)
