Volunteer

Daktari Project is a non-profit organization reliant on the dedicated efforts of volunteers. For over 10 years, we have immersed our volunteers in the world of Ugandan medicine. They are professionally guided by the hospital staff who teach them the tricks of the trade concerning Uganda health care. In this way, we maintain an interaction where our students can have a unique experience while also contributing to and for the hospital.

Do you want to get involved in our project yourself and prefer to roll up your sleeves? Here in Belgium or in far-off Uganda? Contact us via volunteer@daktariproject.com.

Internships 2025

POSTED IN: Volunteers ON: December 2, 2023 BY: Ilia Van Campenhout

(Dutch version below) Like every year, Kilembe Mines Hospital will receive volunteers and interns from Daktari Project in the summer of 2025. All students in healthcare related fields are welcome to apply. Concerning necessary background knowledge, we require students to have finished at least their 1st master year of medicine or their 3rd to 4th bachelor year of nursing/midwifery/…  During each summer month (July, August and September), a group of 4 students will go to Kilembe Mines Hospital to stay there for an internship of 3 weeks. As a volunteer, you would support the local hospital staff by assisting them with their daily tasks, all the while learning from their vast clinical experience. This is a unique way to learn about the challenges of health care abroad. Moreover, you will act as an extension of our organisation to give input on our long term projects and the needs of the hospital and local community during your visit.  The hospital provides housing located on the previous hospital grounds, which is just opposite the current Kilembe Mines Hospital site. You will be well looked after by our Ugandan friends, and will always be in direct contact with one of our Daktari Project members in Belgium.  If this tickles your interest, you can get more information by sending an e-mail to volunteer@daktariproject.com.  If you would like to contend for one of the 16 coveted spots, do not hesitate to send your resumé and motivation letter to volunteer@daktariproject.com. Once we’ve gone through and approved your application, we will invite you to get together and get to know our members and organisation, as well as  to exchange thoughts and expectations on your participation. Spread the word! Spread the word!
